چکیده

A malaria model is formulated which includes the enhanced attractiveness of 7 infectious humans to mosquitoes, as result of host manipulation by malaria 8 parasite, and the human behavior, represented by insecticide-treated bed nets 9 usage. The occurrence of a backward bifurcation at R0 = 1 is shown to be 10 possible, which implies that multiple endemic equilibria co-exist with a stable 11 disease-free equilibrium when the basic reproduction number is less than unity. 12 This phenomenon is found to be caused by disease–induced human mortality. 13 The global asymptotic stability of the endemic equilibrium for R0 > 1 is proved, 14 by using the geometric approach to global stability. Therefore, the disease 15 becomes endemic for R0 > 1 regardless of the number of initial cases in both the 16 human and vector populations. Finally, the impact of vector’s host preferences 17 and bed–net usage behavior on system dynamics is investigated. 18 Subject class: 92D30, 34C23, 34D23 19

A qualitative study on caretakers' perceived need of bed-nets after reduced malaria transmission in Zanzibar, Tanzania

BACKGROUND The elimination of malaria in Zanzibar is highly dependent on sustained effective coverage of bed-nets to avoid malaria resurgence. The Health Belief Model (HBM) framework was used to explore the perceptions of malaria and bed-net use after a noticeable reduction in malaria incidence. METHODS Nineteen in-depth interviews were conducted with female and male caretakers of children un...

Study of irritant effect of permethrin impregnated nets on pyrethroid resistant and susceptible genotypes of the mosquito anopheles stephensi

pyrethroid-impregnated bednets have been shown to be one of the most promising tools that have emerged in recent years to control malaria.mosquito may be physically irritated by pyrethroid reducing the time searching for blood meals,or driving them away.permethrin impregnated nets also may deter a proportion of mosquitoes from entering houses.irritant effect of nets treated with 200 mg and 500...

The effect of health education according to the theory of planned behavior on malaria preventive behavior in rural men of Chabahar

A total of 6000 people are infected with Malaria in Iran annually. Sistan; Baluchistan province is ranked in the first place in the country. A before-after intervention was conducted in 2011 in Chabahar city, Iran. Environmental influences on mosquito foraging and integrated vector management can delay the evolution of behavioral resistance

Along with the scaled-up distribution of long-lasting insecticidal nets for malaria control has become concern about insecticide resistance. A related concern regards the evolution of host-seeking periodicity from the nocturnal to the crepuscular periods of the day. Why we observe such shifts in some areas but not others and which methods could prove useful in managing such behavioral resistanc...

Modeling the Impact of Bed-Net Use and Treatment on Malaria Transmission Dynamics

We modeled the impact of bed-net use and insecticide treated nets (ITNs), temperature, and treatment on malaria transmission dynamics using ordinary differential equations. To achieve this we formulated a simple model of mosquito biting rate that depends on temperature and usage of insecticides treated bed nets. We conducted global uncertainty and sensitivity analysis using Latin Hypercube Samp...
